Best Mashup Contest

How it works

Upon gaining entry into Mashup Camp, every attendee will be given a single wooden nickel. Then, at some point during Camp we will run Speed Geeking sessions (like speed dating sessions, only geekier). During these sessions, Camp attendees will travel in small, organized groups from table to table as competing mashup developers present their mashups for review. Each developer will have about 5 minutes to convince each group that visits his or her table that their mashup is most deserving for the Best Mashup Contest first place prize.

After the attendees have visited all the mashup developers, they will decide for themselves which business is the best mashup (using their own criteria) and give the founder of that startup their wooden nickel. The mashup developer with the most wooden nickels at the end of Mashup Camp wins!

The rules

Basically, there are no rules (just kidding, see the Official Contest Rules from Mashup Camp 6 to make legal happy).

How to enter or judge

To enter:

  • Register on-site by signing your name to the Best Mashup Contest entry form located at the registration table.
  • Add your mashup to the Mashup Camp Speed Geeking page on the Mashup Camp wiki prior to the Contest so attendees can review your mashup idea. There are no web submissions for this contest, posting your mashup idea to this page just gets you more visibility, it does not enter you into the contest.
  • Attend the mandatory contestant meeting on the day you will compete.
  • Present your idea to the other attendees during the Best Mashup Contest Speed Geeking sessions.
  • Collect your wooden nickels and turn them into the Mashup Camp hosts during the Wooden Nickel Accounting session.
  • Winners will be announced at the end of Camp during the Wrap-up & Awards Ceremony. You must be present to win.

If you're a mashup developer that has entered the contest, make sure to do some campaigning during Camp!

To judge:

  • You will be given a wooden nickel when you pick up your badge and enter Mashup Camp. After the Best Mashup Contest Speed Geeking sessions, give your wooden nickel to the mashup you think has the best idea.

If you are a judge/voter, make sure to seek out the contestants competing in the Best Mashup Contest to find out more about why they think they should win!
