From MashupCamp
I am a PhD Student in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I am interested in studying mashups as a means of end-user development. How easy is it for users (not developers) to stick together these various services and APIs?
I am looking for people at the Mashup camp who would be willing to meet with me and discuss some research topics I have regarding mashups. I am interested in hearing about developers' experiences with programming mashups and getting an understanding for the creative processes that go into mashup development. Some of the things I am interested in are enumerated here : the entrepreneurial activities/aspirations of mashup developers; the amount of technical background and skill that is required to create mashups; the resources used by developers; the mashup community as a whole; the motivations of mashup developers for creating mashups; the development process; the aims and goals of mashups; how developers use existing examples or copy from other mashups.
If anyone is interested in getting together at the camp or in person or electronically, please let me know. You can email me (mjones2 AT gmail DOT com).
This semester I am teaching a course for undergraduates on Web technologies and techniques. I've decided to make the final project a web-mashup project, having students create personal mashups. I want them to combine some of their personal data (course lists, favorite bars, etc) with a web service to create a custom mashup.
At this "unconference" - I would be looking for opportunities to learn more about the available services and the underlying technology. Also, I'd like to meet some of the people involved in the whole "mashup scene" and see what other people are aware of as far as academic research is concerned
Here is my Email: mjones2 AT gmail DOT com.
