JackBe "Going Green with Presto" Mashup Contest
Each one of us has our own environmental footprint and the responsibility to help conserve our environment. In an effort to reduce environmental risks, JackBe is challenging you to create a "Green Mashup" with JackBe’s Presto.
Official Rules/No Purchase Necessary
The "Going Green with Presto" Mashup Contest (the "Contest") is being sponsored by JackBe (the "Sponsor") in connection with Mashup Camp 7 to be held November 17-19, 2008 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California (the "Conference"). Each person who enters the Contest (each, an "Entrant") agrees to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Sponsor and its judges, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to the Contest.
How to Enter
The "Going Green with Presto" Mashup Contest begins Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 9:00 am PST. It is open only to attendees of Mashup Camp, scheduled for November 17-19, 2008 in Mountain View, CA. Here’s how to get your green going:
Download Presto from JackBe’s Mashup Developer Community (MDC).
- Check out the Training Videos on the MDC. You might also find useful stuff in the Code Samples and Demos.
- Get mashin’. Keep it green.
- If you have a question, feel free to post it in the MDC Forums.
To compete in the Contest, an Entrant must sign up live at Mashup Camp, anytime between 9:00 a.m. PST on Monday, November 17, 2008 and 5:00 p.m. PST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.
After signing up, the Entrant must:
- Attend a mandatory Contestant Meeting at 5:30 p.m. PST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. During this meeting, each Entrant must sign and return a declaration of eligibility and release of liability and provide Sponsor with social security or taxpayer I.D. number for tax reporting purposes. The declaration and release will include, to the extent permitted by law and even if already granted by a Entrant’s acceptance of these Official Rules, the grant by each Entrant of permission (without further compensation) for Sponsor to use the Entrant’s name, photograph and likeness (if an individual), logo (if any), state of residence, and Entry for advertising, promotion, marketing, and administration of the Contest and the Conference, including mention at www.mashupcamp.com.
- Submit their Green Mashup to communitymanagers@jackbe.com by 9:00 a.m. PST on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. An Entrant must submit their mashup code and are welcome to submit a video demonstration as well.
Entrants may list their intention to participate at http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/index.php/SpeedGeeking8. However, listing one’s intention to participate does not improve one’s chances of winning.
Criteria
The winning mashup will illustrate a useful, eco-friendly application that helps identify or reduce impacts to the environment. The guts of the mashup are up to entrant; the only requirement is that the mashup must be green. The mashup can help save energy, cut carbon emissions or find local farmer markets with organic foods.
Judges
Entries will be evaluated by the JackBe’s CTO, John Crupi, and JackBe’s VP of Engineering, Deepak Alur, on November 19, 2008 at Mashup Camp in Mountain View, CA. They are avid recyclers and have a soft spot for low-emission vehicles. Judging will be completed by 4:00 p.m. PST on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Conference.
Prize
One (1) $1,000 American Express Gift Card will be awarded.
(We suggest you buy a MacBook Air or a nice HDTV but hey, it’s your money.)
JackBe will notify the potential winner, in person, on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 during the Awards & Cocktail Reception at the end of the last day of Mashup Camp.
Entrant must be present to win: we’d love to see you step up on stage and get recognized in public.

As an example of a Green Mashup, JackBe has created the Carpool Mashup that encourages carpools within an organization based on housing locations, personal interests, and social networks. This Carpool Mashup reduces an individual’s carbon footprint by encouraging people to join carpools, while expanding their personal networks at the same time.
