Identity
From MashupCamp

Identity, security, access control, social networking: there's got to be (and there is) a better way than more user names and passwords
Proposed by Johannes Ernst.

Notes from Nancy Tubbs:
Usage example - how do I register at MashupCamp, link to my and my contacts at mashupcamp.mobido.com
Auto-population, syncronization or linking between different systems.
Needs to be a trust relationship established first
Problems: 1) Passwords are low security 2) ID theft 3) ID exchange/update/… 4) Enabling services that take my social network into account
Yahoo has single sign-on for all their services; could/should a small company use this for their own sign-in solution as well?
First generation mashups use public data. Now how do we enable mashups that use personal data? For example, I want to map my personal contacts on a map and send to a potential customer. Wants a single sign-on so doesn't have to keep track of a username/pw for each service used in this process.
I-Names and OpenID are working on solutions that allow consumers to connect ID's among various services. OpenID 2.0 to be introduced at OSCON shortly. Systems that share data other than authentication are 3 months - 1 year away.
The idea behind user-controlled identity is that the user controls exactly what data is transmitted between services.
Vision: Go to Amazon, select books for your wish list. Enter your URL for your signin. One-time pop-up of a questionnaire that allows you to designate what data from your profile you'd allow Amazon to have. Could also specify certain data to be constantly updated and available (eg, cell phone) and other data to be only available for a limited time. Or when checking out at Amazon, you could check out with your URL/OpenID instead of entering information each time.
