How to create a new page on the MashupCamp Wiki: There are at least two easy ways to create a new page on the MashupCamp Wiki. The first of these is really simple. Go to the URL field (the Web address) at the top of your browser and paste the following text into that field (but don't press the enter key yet!):
http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/index.php/
Next, immediately after the last slash, enter the name of the new page. For example, if you are creating a page on the Mashup Camp wiki that's going to contain some profile information that you wish to share with other campers and your name is John Doe, here's how you should finish entering the URL:
http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/index.php/JohnDoe
Notice that there's no space between John and Doe and the second word is capitalized? Make sure you don't use spaces. It's also very good to use multiple words and capitalize each one. It helps to make sure that the page you're creating is unique within the wiki. Just make sure you capitalize the second, third, fourth word or so on. This technique, known as camel casing, is good wiki form! If, for example, you want to set up a new profile page for your company and the name of your company is Widgets, Inc., then here's what you should put into the URL field:
http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/index.php/WidgetsInc
But just "Widgets" would work too. For example:
http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/index.php/Widgets
Once you're done filling completing the URL, press the enter key and you'll be taken to a wiki page under that name. Then, to edit it, click the edit tab near the top of the screen.
Alternatively, while editing a new or existing page, you can just put the name of a new page right into your text (using camel casing). To do this, you must surround the pagename with double brackets. For example:
For more information checkout our profile page at WigdetsInc
Notice where camel casing is used for WidgetsInc? If a page in the wiki already exists under this name, then it will automatically establish a hyperlink to that page once you exit the edit mode by pressing the SAVE button at top of the page. If the page doesn't exist, the hyperlink will still appear, but it will be in the color red to indicate that the page doesn't exist yet. The first person to click on that link will be taken immediately in the edit mode for a new page under the name WidgetsInc (or whatever name you provided).
Once you are in the edit mode for the new page, enter whatever text you want on that page, press the save button, and you're done (you can always come back to the page and edit it later). Shortly, we'll have a FAQ page for basic formatting when you're entering text onto a new page (boldface, underline, headings, etc.).
