Mashup Camp will be conducted Open Space style. We will begin at in the morning with everyone sitting in a circle. In the middle will be a stack of paper and pens. All those who want to lead a session will be invited into the middle to write the session title a breif description of the sesion and their name. They speak the name into the mike and then post it on the board in the time/space grid. There are about 10 different rooms and 5 different time slots...lots of session rooms. We will also do some speed geeking session on the Tuesday - mashups can get in a slot on Tuesday morning.

There are several principles of open space

  • Whoever comes are the right people.
  • Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
  • Whenever it starts is the right time.
  • When it is over.
  • Document your session on the wiki.

There is also the Law of Two Feet: If durring the course of the gathering, any person finds themselves in a situation where they are neither learning nor contributing, the must use their two feet and go to some more productive place.

And Be Prepared to Be Surprised.

Below is a list of probable/proposed discussions. At the end of each description is a link to a detail level page where you can get more information, indicate your interest in attending the discussion, and flesh out the topic in more detail with attendees. However, in some cases, these detail level pages are not setup yet. So, if you click on the link, it will take you to a blank page (if you are one of the people who proposed a topic, feel free to start the detail level page associated with that topic and get the conversation going!).

Feel free to suggest a session below.

Go to the session page for more details, to sign up to attend this session, and to flesh out the topic with other attendees.

  1. WorkflowIntegration : Not just side by side integration typical mashup style, but integration with workflow involved.
  2. OpenMashupCommunity : Several attendees are interested in seeing an open mashup community get formed. A bit like SourceForge, but also different. A place where mashup developers can share ideas, collaborate on projects, and a resource that those who are seeking mashup developers can turn to in order to get help or to get mashup developers thinking about their problem. ChrisMessina from Flock as well as several educational institutions that will be in attendance have expressed an interest in this discussion.
  3. DeploymentInfrastructure : ZachTurmin from the Financial Services Technology Consortium (represents over 200 financial institutions) is one of the Mashup Camp attendees that proposed a session on the industrial strength of the APIs that are out there in terms of usage in enterprise applications. In Turmin's words: "Folks should walk away with an appreciation for the complexity of 'industrial-strength' requirements (both business and technical) and the opportunities for uptake aand adoption of those products and services in those marketplaces."
  4. BusinessModelsInMashups : This is the elephant in the room. For most of the API providers, there's a cost associated with API access. As API providers move from a collection of loosely associated APIs (in many cases, there's no association) to platforms (a direction most API providers are taking), they are seeking broader adoption of those platforms. But, at the same time, there's a cost associated with running those platforms. Not just operational costs of a single execution of an API, but marketing, support, R
