OFFICIAL RULES/NO PURCHASE NECESSARY

The "Wetpaint Injected" Mashup Contest (the "Contest") is being sponsored by [wetpaint.com, Inc.] (the "Sponsor") in connection with Mashup Camp 7 to be held November 17-19, 2008 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California (the "Conference"). Each person who enters the Contest (each, an "Entrant") agrees to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Sponsor and its judges, which are final and binding on all matters pertaining to the Contest.

How to enter

To compete in the Contest, an Entrant must sign up live at Mashup Camp, anytime between 9:00 a.m. PST on Monday, November 17, 2008 and 5:00 p.m. PST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.

After signing up, the Entrant must:

  • Attend a mandatory Contestant Meeting at 5:30 p.m. PST on Tuesday, November 18, 2008. During this meeting, each Entrant must sign and return a declaration of eligibility and release of liability and provide Sponsor with social security or taxpayer I.D. number for tax reporting purposes. The declaration and release will include, to the extent permitted by law and even if already granted by a Entrant’s acceptance of these Official Rules, the grant by each Entrant of permission (without further compensation) for Sponsor to use the Entrant’s name, photograph and likeness (if an individual), logo (if any), state of residence, and Entry for advertising, promotion, marketing, and administration of the Contest and the Conference, including mention at www.mashupcamp.com.
  • Submit their Mashup to www.wetpaintinjected.com by 9:00 a.m. PST on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. To do so, the Entrant must:
    • Become a registered member at www.wetpaintinjected.com (the official Wetpaint Injected wiki)
    • Create a page titled "Mashup Camp Entry: <title of entry name>" where they will add a link to their mashup, along with a description of their submission and clear explaination of design.

Entrants may list their intention to participate at http://wiki.mashupcamp.com/index.php/SpeedGeeking8. However, listing one’s intention to participate does not improve one’s chances of winning.

Notification

Entries will be evaluated by Wetpaint in conjunction with Mashup Camp Organizers at the Conference (collectively, the "Judges"). Judging will be completed by 4:00 p.m. PST on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at the Conference. The prizewinner will be determined by the Judges.

Sponsor will notify the potential winner, in person, on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 during the Awards & Cocktail Reception at the end of the last day of the Conference. Sponsor’s decision is final.

Entrant must be present at Mashup Camp's Awards & Cocktail Reception to win.

This contest is sponsored by wetpaint.com, Inc., 710 2nd Ave, Suite 1100, Seattle, WA 98104.

Entrant requirements

Any potential winner who does not satisfy all of the requirements of this section may be disqualified, and Sponsor may select an alternate winning Entry from the remaining Entries.

Each Entrant will be required to attend a mandatory Contestant Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Sponsor reserves the right to share ownership and use of the winning "Wetpaint Injected" Mashup with any and all of its affiliates, without limitation.

Each Entrant will be responsible for his or her own costs of travel, meals, accommodations, and equipment in connection with the Contest and the Conference. All individual Entrants and representatives of business entity Entrants must be in sufficient physical condition for safe travel to the Conference.

Criteria

The winning mashup adds Wetpaint Injected functionality onto some other technology, but it does it in a way that is accessible to other developers (not necessarily end-users). The mashup can rely upon an existing framework for its accessibility or it can be constructed in a way that is installable by other developers. The purpose of the mashup should be to enhance online or offline communities or existing social networks by inspiring the creation of collaborative content in a novel or engaging way.

The winners will be selected based upon the votes cast by Wetpaint Judges. Judges will evaluate the Wetpaint Injected Mashup entries based upon:

  • The ease by which other developers can implement the Mashup;
  • A novel and engaging way in which the technology supports collaborative content creation;
  • Exceptional creativity and usability in the development of the software Mashup;
  • The clarity by which the page at www.wetpaintinjected.com which describes the Mashup explains the problem/solution or states the value of information in the design.

Termination

Sponsor reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest in its sole and absolute discretion if the Contest becomes technically corrupted or is not capable of being run as planned, including infections by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Contest.

In such event, Sponsor will post notice at the Conference and on the Contest Website and will implement an alternate means for awarding the prize.

Miscellaneous

If any part of these Official Rules is held by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal, or otherwise unenforceable, such part will be deemed modified or eliminated to the extent necessary, in the court’s opinion, to make it enforceable while preserving the original intent of the Sponsor, and the remaining parts of these Official Rules will remain in full force and effect. The Contest will be governed by, and these Official Rules will be interpreted by, and enforced in accordance with, the laws of the State of New York and applicable United States federal law, without regard to any conflicts of laws principles. The Contest is void where prohibited by law. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Official Rules, the Contest, the Conference, or any prize must be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in New York, New York, and Sponsor and each Entrant irrevocably waive any objection to the venue and jurisdiction thereof.
